Amsterdam | View from the Canal

Ok, so we loved, loved, loved Amsterdam. I think what I loved most was the relaxed atmosphere. Everyone we met was so social and welcoming. And I was just super impressed with all of the food we ate while we were there. I think that Amsterdam has it all as far as a travel destination goes (well, except for a real beach). It has a rich history, a lively atmosphere if you want to party, and also a calmer side! So I'm wrapping up our Amsterdam posts with some beautiful views from the canals.

My Dad, Van and I took a nice little afternoon canal boat tour through the canals in Amsterdam. The boat had a recorded guide playing over the loud speaker but honestly, we didn't really pay much attention to it. Having braved the weather and listened to the horrors of Nazi Amsterdam, we were ready to just relax and enjoy the scenery. I'll tell you, I could cruise the canals all day. I don't think I could ever tire of the Amsterdam architecture. I love wonky buildings!

So sit back and enjoy the cruise, just as we did.....with no recording :)

  1. I was in Amsterdam a few years ago on a sailing trip and absolutely loved the city! We didn't do a canal cruise but I bet it must be lovely. Certainly looks that way ;)

  4. I'm so glad you loved Amsterdam!! Every time I go I love it even more, there's just so much to do, so much to see, and you're right about the atmosphere - so relaxed compared to some other big cities (granted Amsterdam is actually quite small but hey). <3

  6. Some people think boat cruises or gimmicky or silly, but I really love them--a great way to see a city from a different perspective. The canal cruise in Amsterdam was one of my favorites, too.

    1. Well I think if you don't expect too much from the gimmicky things, they are enjoyable. I loved the cruise though....it was just nice and relaxing. We were so happy we did it :)

  7. I'm with you, Amsterdam is a big favorite of mine-- my first favorite city in Europe :) And a canal cruise is an absolutely necessary experience when there... unlike boat rides in other cities where there's not much to see, there's so many things to take in from an A-dam canal cruise. Glad you had fun!

  9. I agree...can't get enough of the architecture. I also love canal/river cruises because you get to see a lot without having to walk or bike. It's a win/win situation for me.

We did the canal cruise when we were in Amsterdam many years ago - it was however in winter and very very cold! Still great fun though.
